Instagram Stories are a great way to show posts or daily curiosities without posting everything to your feed. They’re low maintenance, don’t require tons of editing, and disappear within 24 hours. It’s the perfect way to stay engaged with your audience without spamming their feed.

But what about that cute post you saw on your feed? Is it possible to share an Instagram post to a Story, even if it isn’t yours?

Yes, you can! And it’s really easy to do. Today we’ll show exactly how to share any Instagram post to your Story so that all your followers can enjoy it with you.

Here’s How You Can Share An Instagram Post To Story

Whether you are using an app on your phone or using your pc, the first step to sharing an Instagram post to your Story is to log in to your account.

Use The Share Function

Instagram has made sharing posts to Stories easy with its share function.

Click on the small paper airplane icon below the post you want to share (this can be your post or someone else’s). This will bring up a small list of your closest Instagram contacts.

Right at the top will be an option that allows you to share the post to your Story. Click on it and move right on to the next step.

If the option to share the post to your Story is not available, then it means the person either has a private account or some other privacy setting in place to prevent anybody from sharing their posts. If this is the case, you won’t be able to post it to your Story.

Edit And Post

Next, you will be directed to your Story dashboard. Here you can edit the image size, add tags, or edit it with a cute filter. You can add text and share your thoughts on the posts.

The post should appear in a square in the middle of your Story with the handle of the profile that posted it. If you want to include the caption, tap on the image and a white box around the post should appear with the caption.

Now all you need to do is press the “Your Story” button at the bottom of the screen and watch it instantly upload. The username of the original owner will still show and can’t be taken away.

Anybody who views your Story will be able to click on the post and visit the original content creator.

In 24 hours, the post will disappear like any other type of Story. However, you will also be able to add this Story to your Instagram Highlights on your profile to enjoy the post for as long as it’s available on the content creator’s profile.

Conclusion

Now that you know how to share an Instagram post to your Story, you can showcase all the images and videos that inspire you or make you laugh when scrolling through the app.

Easily share what you enjoy with others and engage with your audience over shared hobbies and memes. Or, use this feature to bring attention to your own new posts to get more eyes on them.
